Measurement of Low and Medium Power Lasers

Radiant Power of Continuous Wave Lasers with a parallel beam are measured with planar detectors, whereas lasers with highly divergent beams with integrating sphere detectors.
Radiant Power Noise Component of continuous wave lasers is a qualification characteristic in high bandwidth applications as in laser imaging scanners where the noise signal reduces the imaging resolution. Femtosecond Lasers emit short light pulses with only femtosecond durations. This pulse energy needs to be measured to control their use in ultra fast processes. Laser Diode Chips (dyes) are often stress-tested in order to evaluate their aging process and error rate. Radiant power emitted is measured with integrating sphere detectors.
