Modular Variable Integrating Sphere Source
Gigahertz-Optik’s model ISS-8P integrating sphere forms the basis for a modularly configurable uniform light source. It can be combined with the LS-OK30 light source assembly and different types of attenuation devices to meet the requirements for a lab standard calibration source useful for:
- Pixel uniformity and pixel linearity calibration of imaging systems with a large dynamic luminance range
- MTF calibration of imaging sensor resolution where a slit target at a specified distance is uniformly illuminated by the integrating sphere source
- Luminance or spectral radiance sensitivity calibration of imaging devices or luminance meters
Gigahertz-Optik offers three different integrating sphere sources based on the ISS-8P integrating sphere.
Model ISS-8P-HP is set-up with the LS-OK30 light source combined with LS-OK30-FH filter holder and three manually exchangeable LS-OK30-HPA neutral density filters at OD0, OD1 and OD2 attenuation factors corresponding to 100%, 10% and 1% light throughput respectively. A typical application for this set-up is pixel-uniformity calibration of imaging systems at three different luminance or radiance levels. The filter exchange is faster and more precise than intensity adjustment using a variable aperture.
Model ISS-8P-VA is set-up with the LS-OK30 light source combined with manually operated LS-OK30-VA variable aperture for intensity control. Use this system when a precisely controlled luminance or radiance is required.
Model ISS-8P-VAHP is set-up with the LS-OK30 light source plus LS-OK30-VA and LS-OK30-HPA. The variable aperture enables the analogue luminance or radiance whereas the holes pattern attenuator offers attenuation in OD0, OD1 and OD2 steps. In each OD range the range of the variable output is fully controllable a unique feature over integrating sphere sources with a variable aperture only. The ISS-8P-VAHP offers the widest high resolution controllable luminance and radiance range of the three ISS-8P set-ups.
Common Features:
- Hole-pattern attenuation filters have some advantages over metal or interference type neutral density filters since the light signal does not have to pass through any filter material or coating layer. This ensures minimal change on the spectral shape, thus source color temperature. Also hole-pattern attenuators are not subject to temperature drift effects.
- The LS-OK30 light source can be configured with LH-F and LH-F-UV series quartz halogen lamps from 5 to 100W. Lamp power level is selected based on the luminance and radiance level requirements.
- Optional luminance (cd/m²) and/or spectral radiance calibration (W/m²·sr) is performed by Gigahertz-Optik’s calibration laboratory for optical radiation quantities
- Optional lamp power supplies, light meters and monitor detectors are available
