Irradiance Detector for High Intensity LEDs
The RCH-116 detector is designed for use in applications requiring irradiance measurements of high intensity LEDs. Its low profile 8mm height enables the measurement of irradiance very close to the test sample surface or reference plane. The 9mm diameter cosine diffuser offers a good integration to resolution ratio in applications involving flat-field sources and when measuring light output of light guide equipped sources with common size fiber optic diameters.
Unlike conventionally designed irradiation detectors where the detector housing containing the optical band-pass filter and photodiode are directly exposed to the high intensity irradiation Gigahertz-Optik has developed a detector design with separate light detection element and light detector. Only the input optic element is exposed to high intensity radiation. The detector and optical band pass filter remain outside the hot zone. The input optic element is made out of RADIN an optical material that can withstand high temperatures and high UV irradiation levels up to 40W/cm². For extended life time with minimum degradation under UV irradiation the material is pre-aged using high energy UV-C radiation. The RADIN element is passive. It simply integrates and attenuates then transmits the light signal into its attached 22cm long light guide with stainless steel sheathing up to the detector. The detector capsule enclosing the photodiodes and optical band-pass filter is attached to other end of the fiber light guide. The RCH-116 detector’s radiometric spectral sensitivity is within the wavelength range from 365 to 440nm. The detector is supplied with a 0.5m long coaxial cable with selectable –1, -2 or -4 type connector for use with Gigahertz-Optik’s range of optometers. Calibration is performed in W/m² and W/cm² at the typical LED wavelengths of 365nm, 375nm, 385nm, 395nm, 405nm and 430nm at Gigahertz-Optik’s calibration laboratory and supplied with calibration certificates which describe the calibration procedure and its traceability.
