Illuminance detectors such as Gigahertz-Optik’s VL-37 series, PD-9310 series and VL-6001 can also be used to measure the luminous intensity both continous (CW) and flashing light sources. Here the measured illuminance is converted into the relevant luminous intensity value through calculation using the square of the distance between the light source and the detector. For effective luminous intensity measurement of flashing light sources further conspicuity factor or form factor calculations are made using the Blondel-Rey, Schmidt-Claussen, modified Allard or other method. All Gigahertz-Optik photopic detectors offer a fine CIE and DIN V(λ) matching spectral responsivity. They are supplied with a 2m long coaxial cable with selectable –1, -2 or -4 type connector for use with Gigahertz-Optik’s range of optometers. Calibration of illuminance in lux is performed at Gigahertz-Optik’s Calibration Laboratory for Optical Radiation Quantities.
