In applications involving single short duration events as in arc welding processes the light hazard measurement should show the intensity as a function of the measurement time. This measurement capability requires a fast data logging lightmeter. The P-9801-V03 optometer combined with the XD-45-Hazard detectors is a powerful data logger / lightmeter for the evaluation of the possible health risk due to exposure from UV and Blue Light for workplace safety in accordance with the directive 2006/25/EC and DIN EN 14255-1. The instrument also supports product classification under the aspect of photobiological safety of lamps and lamp systems in accordance with EN 62471. This portable instrument is not on par with a double grating monochromator spectroradiometer. But it is an alternative device using state of the art multi-cell detector design which is less complex and meets lower budget demands. Operation is simple but an understanding of the applicable standards is necessary for proper use. The instrument set-up consists of three devices. The four channel XD-45-HB light detector is designed for blue-light hazard assessment. Its built with three photodiodes with optical filters forming the UV-A, Blue and Red spectral sensitivity shape per the CIE actinic blue light hazard function. The fourth photodiode matches the CIE v(λ) photometric response for illuminance (lx) measurements for assessing the 500 lx specification in the hazard regulation. For radiance measurements the XD-45-HB-SRT200 front tube adapter is available. The front end optic includes two exchangeable apertures which form the specified lower and upper fields of view limit values of 11mrad and 100mrad. The XD-45-HUV UV Hazard detector includes two photodiodes with optical filter forming the CIE actinic ICNIRP/ACGIH spectral sensitivity function. A third photodiode with radiometric UV-A response is used for hazard evaluation of UV-A irradiance incident on the human eye. The XD-45-HUV is supplied with a removable radiance front adapter limiting the detector field of view to a total of 80°. The detectors are calibrated by Gigahertz-Optik’s calibration laboratory for optical radiation measurement units. The P-9801-V03 meter is a multichannel optometer offering 8 identical measurement channels with gain selectable current to voltage amplifiers and sampling and hold ADC. This enables the meter to synchronously read out of all photodiodes of the multi-cell light detectors. The amplifiers rise time is 1ms (10ms in 1x10-8 and 1x10-9 gain) combined with a adjustable sample rate of up to 1ms and a storage capacity of 5957 samples per channel. The P-9801 signal inputs are built with high linearity current to voltage amplifier with eight manually or automatically selected gain ranges. The maximum error within this wide dynamic range is 0.2 %. The S-PCR-P-9801optionally supplied software is recommended for easy operation of the P-9801 in light hazard measurement applications. The software supports the measurement set-up, measurement process itself and data readout. If the type of light source to be measured is known a correction factor can be selected from the meter light source library to improve the measurement uncertainty.
